KWNC organises Healthcare Management and Perioperative Nursing Programmes to enhance professional competency

Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau (KWNC) organised the Healthcare Management and Leadership Course II (Excellence in Management and Leadership)’ and the ‘Advanced Perioperative Care for Surgical and Interventional Procedures’ on 26th April, which were successfully completed. The two programmes, which lasted for nearly two months, brought together healthcare experts from Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, as well as local senior healthcare professionals to form a teaching team. The contents of the programmes, which were closely integrated with the cutting-edge development of the industry and the actual needs of the clinics, have significantly enhanced the management and leadership abilities of the trainees as well as their professional skills in perioperative care, and were highly evaluated by the students.
The Healthcare Management course focuses on the challenges of management in a complex healthcare environment. The programme covers management theories, reform and innovation, crisis and adverse event management, human resources strategies, building high-performance teams, and promoting the development of smart healthcare, and focuses on cultivating trainees’ practical management skills and foresight.
The Advanced Perioperative Nursing course focuses on cutting-edge clinical technologies, covering advanced knowledge and skills in the areas of intervention, robotic surgery, anaesthesia crisis management, new concepts in pain management and new endoscopic techniques. Senior surgeons, anaesthesiologists, nurse consultants and academics from Hong Kong and local institutions were invited to teach the course. Through a variety of teaching methods, including theory lectures, case studies, round-table discussions and simulations, the course aims to strengthen students' clinical judgment and contingency skills, so as to enhance the quality of care and patient safety.
Executive Officer of Nursing & Health Study Centre, Lei Wai In, said, ‘We are very pleased to see the success of these two courses. The active participation of the students and the teaching of the instructors have contributed to the fruitful learning outcomes. This not only reflects the aspirations of local healthcare professionals for continuous professional development, but also demonstrates the College's commitment to bringing in cutting-edge knowledge and building a high-level exchange platform. The Nursing and Health Study Centre will continue to uphold its mission of promoting lifelong learning and offer more professional courses that meet the needs of the society and the industry, so as to nurture more outstanding healthcare professionals for Macao and the Greater Bay Area, and contribute to the enhancement of the overall standard of healthcare services in the region’.
With the successful completion of the programme, the students expressed that they had benefited a lot from the programme, which not only updated their professional knowledge and broadened their international perspective, but also improved their leadership, risk management and clinical nursing skills.
